A great deal of thought has been put into the furnishing and décor of this impressive village house. Through maximising natural light with large, windows and using whites and creams extensively, the owners have here created a relaxed atmosphere of calm. Clever use of pebble tones, natural materials such as wood, rope and wicker, and occasional pieces of art with a nautical theme, give this lovely house a seaside feel and serve as a constant reminder of the glorious location in which it sits.
A light and airy hallway painted in white and laid to grey Cornish slate tiles greets you as you step through the cottage’s front door. A doorway off here leads you straight into a lovely open-plan lounge/diner with painted wooden floor. Decorated with style using light colours punctuated by soft furnishings in blue and red, this space is the perfect area in which to spend relaxed family time together. A generous comfy corner sofa and matching armchairs arranged around a wooden coffee table provide that all important relaxation area; and the addition of a log-burner creates a cosy atmosphere on chilly nights.
For times when you feel like settling down to a good film, a flat screen TV with Freeview is at your disposal and the property also boasts the luxury of a Nintendo Wii. Should you need to access the internet during your holiday, WiFi is also available here. The dining area of this glorious room has also been furnished with comfort in mind; a large wooden table and six upholstered chairs ensure that a large family can enjoy relaxed meals together. A high chair is provided for those with young children.
The kitchen is located to the back of this property and, again, has been well designed to suit family living. A round table with four chairs sits in the middle of this room, its pale colour matching the white of the walls and the sleek, modern units. Lovely Cornish slate tiles have been chosen for the floor and the quality finish continues with the range of integrated appliances provided, which include a full height fridge and freezer, a dishwasher, a washing machine and a tumble dryer. A fabulous feature of the kitchen here are the French doors which open the room out onto a decked seating area; a perfect little sun trap and a lovely way of bringing the outside in.
This attractive decked area continues down a few steps into a courtyard to the back of the house which, surrounded by a sunny white wall, offers a good degree of privacy. Very useful features here are the side gate to the courtyard and the outhouse; the ideal space in which to leave wet gear after a fun-filled day at the beach.
Kittiwake’s bedrooms have been tastefully decorated to match the relaxed, seaside theme of the rest of the house and the master bedroom is particularly spectacular, featuring a vaulted tongue and groove timber ceiling painted in fresh white. A king-size bed, built-in wardrobe and stylish chest of drawers provide all you need to stay here in comfort and a luxurious touch is undoubtedly the en-suite bathroom. Simply but stylishly decorated with white and blue tiling and grey Cornish slate. High quality towels are provided throughout for guests’ use.
The second and third bedrooms at Kittiwake are both of a generous size and boast wooden twin beds. Again, the emphasis is on comfort, with each room providing adequate storage in built-in wardrobes or chests of drawers. Beautifully furnished using natural colours and pretty pieces of art with a nautical theme, these bedrooms are light and airy. Luxury bed linen is provided in all bedrooms and there is a travel cot for families with young children.
Off the spacious landing which has a useful additional storage and drying area, is the modern family bathroom. A contemporary white suite of W.C, large bath and separate corner shower unit form a clean, crisp contrast against the grey Cornish slate floor tiles – which, as with the en-suite, are heated.
